Maike Lolkema is a lecturer in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology at Leiden University. She teaches various courses on Anthropology and Development Sociology and supervises BA students on their thesis.
Maike received her MA degree from the African Studies Centre Leiden and Leiden University for her research Sounds of Young Afrikaners. Popular Music and Processes of Social Identification in and around Pretoria, South Africa (ResMA African Studies). She explored how Afrikaner youth uses popular music to express their identity, future dreams and emotions.
Previously Maike worked at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Taskforce Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, the welfare sector in The Hague and Amsterdam and the University of Applied Sciences The Hague as a lecturer Social Work.
